Algebra I Recipe: Solving Absolute Value Equations
Steps
  1. Isolate the absolute value using inverse operations.
  2. Write a compound sentence with "OR".
  3. Solve each sentence (equation) for the variable.
  4. Check your solutions where the absolute value is isolated.
    • The answer is the number(s) that make true statements when checked.
ExamplesExamples:
| 2x - 7 | - 5 = 4
6 - 5| x - 1 | = 1
-2| x + 2 | = 4
