A. Adding Polynomials
- Drop the parentheses.
- Combine like terms.
- Put terms in alphabetical order or descending order by powers.
B. Subtracting Polynomials
- Change all subtraction to "adding the opposite" when necessary.
- Distribute the negative to the second set of parentheses.
- Combine like terms.
- Put terms in alphabetical order or descending order by powers.
C. Multiplying Two Binomials
- Use the distributive property: F-O-I-L
- Combine like terms.
- Put terms in descending order.
D. Multiplying a Binomial and a Trinomial
- Distribute each term of the binomial to each term of the trinomial.
- Combine like terms.
- Put terms in descending order.
