Algebra II Recipe: Changing an Exponential Equation to a Logarithmic Equation
Equation
Since by = x is equivalent to logbx = y, an exponential equation can be expressed as a logarithmic equation.
A. Given 24 = 16
  1. (2) is the b.
  2. (16) is the x.
  3. (4) is the y.
  4. Logarithmic Equation —› log216 = 4
B. Given 163/4 = 8
  1. (16) is the b.
  2. (8) is the x.
  3. (3/4) is the y.
  4. Logarithmic Equation —› log168 = (3/4)
C. Given 27-2/3 = 1/9
  1. (27) is the b.
  2. (1/9) is the x.
  3. (-2/3) is the y.
  4. Logarithmic Equation —› log27(1/9) = (-2/3)
