Algebra I Recipe: Solving Quadratic Equations Using Factoring
Steps to Solve
  1. Set all terms equal to zero.
  2. Factor the polynomial completely.
  3. Set each factor that has a variable equal to zero.
  4. Solve each equation.
  5. The numbers obtained in step 4 are the solutions. If we were to graph the quadratic equation, these values would be the x-intercepts.
ExamplesExamples:
2x2 + 3x = 5

4x2 + 2x = 0

3x2 + 7x + 2 = 0

12x2 - 5x – 3 = 0

4x2 - 18x = 0
